We do not have guests often, rarely in fact. LZ made a friend online with a local sushi master who loves sailing. She had been following his blog on good tasting affordable wines. He came by to visit on memorial day.
We visited for sushi, a couple of places where he works. One of these places is Yoshi’s a famous Japanese Restaurant Jazz club. We have watched a couple of shows and eaten there before.
Kaz-sensei came by wanting to see the Zenamaran. Having never been on a CAT he was interested in visiting. He was impressed that LZ was living aboard.
He was quite taken with the ZenCat and we will take him for a sail in the future. It would have been a good day then however the tide was too low for us to get out of the side channel. Also I need to disassemble the port rudder and repair it so it will go up and down easy. Right now it sucks…seriously!
We expected the master to only stay for a short visit but he stayed for about three hours. He was very talkative but interesting. He brought along a bottle of wine from Chile, whihc he recommends for overall value and taste a good buy. LZ had a bottle of wine she was holding for a special moment, we got when in Napa last visit. LZ made some snacks , we we had with the wines.
We spoke on boating, spiritual matters, Japan past, 3/11, future and Japan Soul revival. He wore a wrist band with “Japan Soul” on it. Not your everyday conservative Japanese. We had nice visit with the Sensei and look forward to another visit with him, this time with his wife from Peru. Looks like we will have another couple of friends in Japan as he is planning a move back there.

I wonder if the California wine industry doesn’t have a hand in keeping more Chilean wines off our market shelves.
Out of the country, their wines seem to be easier to find and often represent good value.
