Anchors away…

I went out to the Kyudojo to practice however I did not have the key so it was a wasted trip… bummer.

After that I decided to make the best of the day and do some work on the Zenamaran…sorting out the anchors,  After the visit and discussion with Marc last week I figured it was a good thing to check over my grounding system. I need to make sure now everything i need for stillness is there and ready. Stillness is as important as movement. When it is time to stay, one should be secure, A bamboo needs firm roots to bend in the wind.

I hauled out all the anchors and rode and laid everything out on the dock,
I checked the lines and discarded, cut things that were too bad or questionable. I switched out a bent Danforth for the Fortress I picked up a while back.
Lubricated the shackles and recoiled the lines, I did not mark the depth points I will do that next.

This was all about organizing this time. I setup the fortress to be used as a everyday local anchor. 10 ft of chain on a forty foot rode. The CQR was set with 10 ft of chain and 100 feet of rode. The Bruce has 30 ft of chain ready with 100 ft of rode. There is a spare 100 ft of rode and 30 ft of chain left for whatever use. The stern has a small Danforth and 20 ‘ of rode hanging off the rear pulpit.

I am set for now I believe, with 60 ft of chain and 300′ of rode if I need it. I also have 300′ of drogue line available. the future will bring a 33 lb Bruce to replace the 16. and another Fortress as a spare. I am still undecided about adding a anchor roller. It will have to be custom mounted. So I will hold off on that for awhile.
I do feel better knowing what I have for stillness after motion, and things are neat and organized.

Another task done was seeing what type of docking lines are aboard and noticing many lines needs whipping on the ends. I also setup a 40′ & 20′ bridal for the anchor line.

After the day’s chores I had a strong sense the ZenCat wants to go sailing. The plan is to start some sailing time next month…yosh!

  1. Thank you for reminding me why I am glad I sail a Laser.

  2. UR Welcome. My job here is done. Good night!

  3. Why such a short rode on the stern hook, Zen?

    • That is 20ft ( combo dock aline and short anchor), there is another 40ft that went up next to it. I only have a 4ft draft with things down. Figure it is ok for around these here parts.
