Zen’s Sailing Bucket List…
I needed to get out of the condo for a change of scene so I headed to the marina to empty the bilge on s/v zen and give her a general check over. I got a bucket of water out of the bilge before my repair job on the hand pump broke…junk.
So that turned from something simple to a bigger undertaking..bummer. I was actually wondering how long the piece of junk was going to last. I went into my stash and brought out the good stuff, I dug out the whale gusher I had stashed to use as a second pump mounted in the cockpit. After a few minutes of digging I located all the parts I needed to do the replacement. However it was not getting done today, right now I have way too much time so I’ll tackle that later in the week. Today I had other plans for the day. Reading, study, meditation…blogging.
Master T, aka T-man, aka Tillerman is having another one of his brilliant blogosphere group writing projects. This time inspired by some guy, who I do not feel like looking up who was inspired by the movie Bucket List. Yup the writing project is “Your Sailing Bucket list” Catchy and original ne! Yup he is cool like that.
So here I am down at the Marina, it is a beautiful day in the high 70’s low 80’s, not much wind, but enough if I wanted to go drifting I could for a while, but, nah. The hassle getting out is not worth the reward of very light wind. I am going sailing this weekend. I am using my instructor perk over at the Oakland school and borrowing one of their boats to go to the fleet week, day or something that is happening on the SF Bay this weekend. Sat I will sail over to Treasure island and hookup with the Islander 36 group and hang out. I’m planning on using one of the school’s folk boat. I have heard so much good about how easy it is too sail and nice ride that I want to check it out. This will be a perfect little outing. It takes about 1 hour to get out of the Estuary then another 30 min or so to get to T-island. So I figure 2 hours, there, two hours back, plus hang out time, if I can raft up or anchor with the I-36 clan.
So, no I have not digressed that is my closest item on my bucket list. Sail on the Bay during fleet week. LZ is in Japan, too bad she would like a short simple outing like this. So as most time, I’ll be doing this alone, Since my friend list is small for sailing…
Soooo back to the list. I have no desire for something grand like circumnavigating. Too much work. I would not mind flying somewhere and sailing once there. I would like to sail in the BVI. I hear great things about sailing there. I would love that. I do have the opportunity in 09’ but with the no full time work status going on, the look gray right now. Unless I can get some of that bleed off Wall street bail out money. I’m sure some of it will end up taking somebody on a vacation, why not me!
I am hesitant about saying sailing to Japan, on my bucket list. One because I’ve said it so many times before and because that was the whole purpose of setting up this blog is to log that and the events leading up to it. Anywho that is the main Item on my Sailing bucket list. To break it down though…
Sail to Osaka, Japan, the sister city of San Francisco via
Hawaii
The Marshall Islands
Guam
Okinawa
Now Once there, the items go
Explore the Inland Sea and take a photo log of the islands & people.
After that…whatever…Staying healthy enough to sail would be a good thing.
On the more serious side though with the current economic gale that is blowing and riding the confused seas of life, just holding on to my boat and being able to sail anywhere over the next couple years is big on my bucket list.
