I had planned on sailing s/v Zen down to T-island this part Sat to be art of the Summer sailstice however I was asked to play in the Band for one of my students clown wedding theater play called Fools Rush in.
It was fun, afterward we headed over to Treasure Island to catch the end of the day events over at Treasure Island. We arrived about 5:00 pm. Most All of the crowds were gone.
There were still people there but not a crowd by any means. We just meandered around seeing what was left to be seen. There were still a bunch of boats anchored in the Bay, and one more band to play and one small cowboy trio just jamming out in the open.
Still beer ( yuk) to be had and some food to eat. There were also some events still to be run. A race of some sort, plus the boat building was still going on.
The nice part was the temperature. It was forecast to be 90 degree in the city and it was that if not near it one side or the other in The Peoples Republic of Berkeley. However on TI is was cool and brezzy. The Lady Z said she felt alive again, I was chilly and sort of wished for a light jacket. Still it was a nice break from the heat of the last few days!
There was not to me a lot going on of interest, I do not drink beer, or eat BBQ, none of the I36 club was there as yet. They were coming later that evening. However whilst strolling around I came up to some booths, and spotted a couple of people I knew. I walked up and said, HEy, I know both you guys, referring to the men in booths right next to each other.
One of which was tearing down his stuff. He recalled me right away as I had just re-met him a couple of nights ago. The other knew my face, but could not place the name, so I messed with him. After I few minutes of teasing I told him. Ahhh Captain Zen. I’m really bad with names out of context. We laughed. He was my instructor for the Coast Guard lic. class. The other guy, my new Boss, the other CEO at OCSC. He says, I hear you do Zen, we should talk sometime. I introduced them to the Zen Crew.
Later the lady Z says. wow you know alot of boat people now. I thought not really, but compared to other non-sailing folks, I know yes . I explained also that “A” was the ( Shacho) president over at the placed we just sailed at yesterday. She says, ooh, really. He seems really nice. Nice owners, have good business. I said yeah,. Before we met I would see him speak, like a regular guy to everyone he saw as he walked around the school. He was cordual to me even before he knew who I was, when I was just in taking tests. He setup a place for me to have shade to sit in, even though he was having a conversation with another person. I was impressed. I felt comfortable enough around him at that time to tease him about finding some work for him to do, instead of just hanging out chatting with folks. Which was what I seen him doing every time I was there. We laughed.
After a bit of more walking around, taking some pictures. One of which The Lady Z was taking of picture of me, and this guy, who I did not know just walks up and puts his around me like we’re buds in the picture. He says thanks and walks off. Lady Z asks, who was that guy? I just shrug my shoulders and say not a clue.
The announcer says this was the largest turn out ever for the event. After that we packed it in and went for some dinner.
This was not from there , but I thought it was cool and fitting!
