Yatta!
I finally finished the ports today. #2 and I went to the marina early. Not as early as I would have like, but enough so it was not toooo hot when we got there. The first thing on the plate was turning the boat. I hooked up long lines fore and aft. Then pushed the boat out of the slip, #2 on the stern I on the bow. With only a little bit of trouble we managed to turn the boat and pull it stern in first to the slip. Nice!
I put #2 back to work on a second coat of TeaQue my favorite wood refinisher. It works well and lasts all season. After putting up a sunshade for #2 who did not bring his hat (grrrr kids),
I set about removing the starboard side port glass. Yesterday I cut the gasket in several places before using the Buddha Palm strike to remove the sheet. Today I decided to just use the strike. I did tno focus much on the first blow. The glass did not budge. Hmmm, ok, #2 is laughing…So this time I chi up, focus and strike. The pane breaks into several pieces and flys apart.
Hmm I thought, not what I had in mind. I am reminded of the commercial about the chicken with too much kick Hehehehah. The second and last pane. again I focus, this time on on a flat strike. Bam! the glass does not break, but jumps out of the frame including the gasket. That was better I thought, also, I think, if that had been a wave at sea I would be toast…wet toast!
So now I prepare the frame area, drill, put on sealer and tadaaa, done. Finally! I feel a sense of relief.
Only thing I am not that please with is, I used 3m 1400, white, sealer. The Glass is smoked, but I can see where the sealer is through the glass. Oh well. Some day I may replace with something else, or get a idea on how to cover up that part of it and still have it look good. I am toying with the idea of wood grained faced contact paper.
Anyway I am so glad that is done. Now I have a major cleanup ahead, with all the drilling I have white, fiber glass dust over everything inside the boat. Yes, I did wear a mask whilst drilling and I will again when I clean up… the mess!!
For now …Yatta!!!
