Goals 08′

The T-man has another group writing project happening. I missed the last one due to all the “zen retreats” I was mind and body else where. If interested in what I’m referring to see Zensekai I So now to this one. hmmm Goals. So many goals so little time.

I had a goal this for the upcoming weekend to have a Loving Day celebration sail with a couple of couple friends. However that seems to not going to work out, as the Toykyo Delegation can not make it due to work. The Lady Z and I will do it anyway, just the two of us. One can not wait for others at times and need to carry on, alone.

So the next main goal for this year will be to sail to Alameda in the Fall for the all Islanders event. Last year’s event was a big success! However I could not sail there, due to having to teach a sailing class. This year I made sure to keep it open. I’m guessing I will be the oldest boat and only I-29 there. The sail to the Encinal Yacht club in Alameda is an all day sail for me. Some 25-30 miles from Martinez to the SF Bay/Alameda Estuary.

I am little by little adding and upgrading things on s/v Zen for the Event/Showing. This week #2 son is in town I will put him to work helping to clean up the brightwork. hehehe, cheap labor. The side port glass will be replaced this week, finally!

There was a something said about not having goals when sailing, but isn’t even a plan to just go sailing a “goal” ? Sometimes I think people get too hung up on words. This is why the practice of “Zen” is not based on writings and words, but the “practice”, the “experience”. Sailing is also about the experience, the practice, but to have goals is to be alive , being human. One has goals to do meditation daily, to live in the moment, to live the sailing experience, to do this or that to our boats, a goal to have a sailing experience. Mine is to have this sailing experience to Alameda.

Anyway , that is just a short term goal, my regular 3-4 readers know of the “big” goal to sail to Nihon! A date has been set, 2011. I’m still not sure if it should be in Nov or the earlier in the season. It is important to time it to miss the cyclones! The sub goal on that is to make it before the end of life as we know it according to the Mayan calendar, Dec ,

:-)

Even if you do not believe this kind of thing. one has to give a bit of thought with things in the world as they are…

Sail now!

I wonder if sail boat sales will increase with the cost of gas as it is. I noticed one guy in the marina next to me, has sold his powerboat. can you imagine paying 500.00 plus for a weekend on the water!!!!

Sailing is “Green”

What we need in this country is a president who sails. I’d vote for him/her!

  1. Hmmm, a president who sails?

JFK was a sailor of course. Bobby was and Teddy is, but they never made it to the Oval Office.

Bush 41 drives a big ass powerboat so that doesn’t count. I’ve seen video of Clinton out on Teddy Kennedy’s yacht but that doesn’t make him a sailor. Bush 43 did give an infamous speech on an aircraft carrier but that doesn’t have sails.

Carter drove a submarine didn’t he? I guess he must have done some sailing at Annapolis but maybe not since? Which brings us to McCain, also am Annapolis grad so I suspect he has waggled a tiller before.

Obama a sailor? Never heard him mention it.
you. But check out http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/politics/070323obama-early-photogallery,0,5458360.photogallery?index=3. Young Barack on a beach in Hawaii with a sailboat. So maybe he did sail as a boy?

  2. [...] goals, or are they mutually incompatible concepts? As usual Zen surprised me with his article on Goals 08′. It made me feel tired just reading about all of his short-term goals, not to mention the big one [...]

  3. [...] Goals 08′ by Zen [...]
