Another Weds. nite sail with Afterguard. I met with Capt Mary for a while before going out. We were waiting for the rest of the group. Capt Mary went over some Navigation problems I was having on the practice forms from the ASA book. One of the things she explained was the book had made 3 errors that she had found. Holy Crap Batman!! no wonder I was having problems making sense of it. She explained it was not me, but the book. Whewww I felt better. She also cleared up a couple of other things I was unsure about. It was helpful since my re-test is in a week or so!! I may just get with her a few days before hand to make sure I am clear.
Anyway, she was not sailing with us tonight. She had to pack for a trip to Ashland Oregon to teach some sessions. We were going out with her Husband Steve tonight. So off we head to the dock. Tonight we are out on a 26 ft Ranger. Pretty nice handling boat I find out.
Steve is good, but Mary is more fun and chatty about boat stuff. However I keep my ears open and pickup a few tips plus a couple of well placed questions get me info.
The sail is on the cool side that night and again we weave our way through the Weds. nite racers is the excitement. I miss getting a very cool photo of some racers with the sun shining through the spinnakers, due t me forgettng my camera!!! Doh!
It is a different group with us tonight. One guy who had not sailed that much and a woman who talked a lot and owned a 30ft Islander.
Again I end up sailing downwind back to the marina while trying the wing and wing. I hate that point of sail always makes me paranoid! Once again I give up the tiller when it is time to Dock in the tight Marina. I did not want an adventure in docking. The boat tonight was smaller and the access better, but still I did not want to deal with it. Another time.
On the way back I did find out that Steve like myself is a singing Bass player when working the music scene.
So ends another quiet sail on the Estuary. I find out when I get home there is a Islander yacht event happening in Sept. for all sizes & ages of the boat. I had thought about bring down s/v Zen for the event. However I would need to take off work on Friday to be there on Sat. a.m. , not good. Also I have to teach a sailing class that weekend. Arrgggg. However on the good side. I will be right there on the Estuary where this is being held. Two I can slip over to
the Yacht clubs right after my class and check out any I-29 that are there. Nice. Next year maybe I can be involved.
